The following example illustrates the advantages of online-learning.

One of our customers is a project manager for IT services. He was assigned from the headquarter in Hamburg, Germany to manage the project from Dubai, the United Arab Emirates. He is responsible for the MEA region (Middle East & Africa). Working groups from several countries are involved in the project: Egypt, Tunisia, Angola, Uganda, South Africa, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Jordan. Sooner after the assignment some conflicts within the team made the communication and the overall progress of the project more difficult as expected. First analysis showed that lack of direct contacts as well as some culturally different preferences in communication styles, different expectations of hierarchy and towards the role of the project manager, but also language barriers were among the reasons of that conflict.

For different reasons it was not possible for all team members to participate in several face-t-face workshops, team coaching or training sessions. The best solution: a modification of the project plan to include face-to-face workshops for the heads of the working groups from all countries with online-learning sessions and supervision for all project members.

Our online supervision varied from individual coaching via video conferences to webinars and all ways of digital communication.

E-workshops and online-moderation

Online diagnostics

We use different acknowledged psychometric tests to assess and develop intercultural competence and cross-cultural communication skills. An example of these tests is the assessment tool “Intercultural Development Inventory” (IDI), which assesses attitude and behavior of individuals working with members of different cultural groups.
